Clementine Comes Of Age In Season Two Of The Walking Dead Telltale Game

It's finally over. All the anguished waiting, the microscopic deconstruction of the trailer, at last, the Walking Dead Telltale game, season 2, episode one, is upon us! And there's no disappointment in the heart of this aficionado. It is totally cool.

Robert Kirkman's mega successful franchise, The Walking Dead, has provided loads of opportunity for the creative explorations of a fan base keen to interact with the world of the zombie apocalypse. I've written elsewhere about the fervor of the Walking Dead fanfiction . Another opportunity for such interaction is provided by the Telltale game.

Fans of season one will certainly remember Clementine. She was kind of the object of the first season. The subject, if you will, the acting protagonist, Lee, was largely driven by his desire to protect her. However, as such fans will know, Lee is gone, and now Clementine has to fend for herself. Thus she has graduated to protagonist of season two. When we meet back up with her in season two, we already see how she has had to grow up, forced to make the hard decisions to survive the zombie apocalypse.

This great game continues to breathe new life into the adventure game genre. In the process, its winning season one strategy, that avoids lapsing into pedantic puzzle solving, continues with the emphasis being upon dynamic of interactive story telling. And these aren't empty choices.

The character's decisions about what to do, and even what to say, lead to real, often surprising and sometimes tragic outcomes. Furthermore, the game keeps track of decisions, many of which come back to haunt our main character - Lee last season, Clementine this season - from episode to episode. Indeed, it appears choices from last season can still have an impact in this new season.

All this is not to say that there are no changes in season two. And most of them are definitely improvements. The technical improvements are particularly noteworthy. I found the graphics much improved in the second season; they are more richly detailed. Frame rates are also improved, being more stable. Clementine walks about at a much advanced clip, now. A welcomed addition, when gripped in on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense.

If there's one thing about which I'm not thrilled, it would be with some of the dialogue options; they struck me as too often too dichotomous. It seems that Clementine either has to be a child or a badass. She's either excessively innocent or excessively confrontational. At least, that's how it seemed to me. I don't think that's getting the most out of the opportunities. I'll be keeping an eye on that situation as the season progresses.

The other side of the coin, though, is that it is an interesting change in the game dynamic to have the options made available by a young girl protagonist. Certainly playing Lee didn't provide the opportunity to be coyly manipulative, as is possible with Clementine.

But of course what Telltale does best, well exhibited in season one of The Walking Dead, is still on display here in the first episode of season two. That is the moral ambiguity and dilemmas that forcefully confront the protagonist. Are you going to turn Clementine into a killer right from the start?

Often to their own surprise and even lament, a lot of early players have done just that. What will be the long term consequences of this choice? We anxiously await what future episodes will reveal. This kind of moral turmoil is the real secret of success for the Walking Dead Telltale games, I believe. So far, in season two, all is looking bright for the future. Tales of Zestiria Gets Worldwide Release for PS3

Namco Bandai Games announced on Thursday that the 20th anniversary Tales of game, titled Tales of Zestiria, will get a worldwide release for the PlayStation 3.

Tales of series producer Hideo Baba said in the announcement, "Over the past few years the TALES OF team has taken great strides to strengthen our relationship with players across North America and Europe.

To respond to their love and support I am honored to open a new chapter of the TALES OF series together with Japanese and overseas fans."

The story of the role-playing game is set on the land of Greenwood, and the main characters are Aleesha and Slay, played by Ai Kayano and Ryohei Kimura, respectively. Namco Bandai Games America describes the game as follows: "Players will delve into a grand storyline and discover the 'zest' of adventure with brand new characters, magical lands and action-packed gameplay."

Namco Bandai Studio's Daigo Okumura designed Aleesha, while Kousuke Fujishima designed Slay. Mutsumi Inomata is also returning to contribute character designs along with Minoru Iwamoto. The anime studio ufotable is once again contributing animation for cut scenes and the opening for the game under studio founder and producer Hikaru Kondo.

Sony Launches God of War: Ascension Super Bowl Commercial Teaser

God of War fans will definitely want to tune in to watch the Super Bowl this coming Sunday, as Sony plans to reveal a new trailer during one of the big game’s commercial breaks.

A new teaser for that upcoming commercial is below, which follows yesterday’s teaser, which was apparently teasing this teaser. This time Sony, has learned their lesson, and are openly titling the video ‘God of War: Ascension Super Bowl 2013 Commercial Teaser’ putting needless speculation to an end. Check out clip below.

In the trailer we see both a woman and young girl, which are almost certainly Kratos’ wife and daughter. Those familiar with the franchise know their unfortunate story. Perhaps we’ll catch a glimpse of that on February 3rd, when the commercial airs.

Sonic is the newest Super Smash Bros. character

Today during the Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata announced that Sonic is the latest character to be joining the Super Smash Bros. roster. New footage of Sonic as a character in the game was released, showing him touching down between Mario and Mega Man battling furiously. This is great news for Sonic fans, who were confident that the Blue Blur would make his return to the series. Today Warner Bros. Interactive released a brand new DLC skins pack for Batman: Arkham Origins called the New Millennium Skins Pack. The pack is available on the Nintendo eShop for $3.99 and includes the following bonus skins from multiple comic storylines:

Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate Has A New Fighter

Famitsu reports the arcade version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will have a new fighter named Marirose. Mai Aizawa who voices Lapis in Rune Factory Frontier and Ayano in the anime Lucky Star voices Marirose. Details about her fighting style have not been leaked online yet.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is out now for PlayStation 3. Tecmo Koei have not said if any extra content from the arcade version will be DLC.

GTA 5 to Get Major Story DLC in 2014

If you have completed the story of GTA 5 and want to play more of Michael, Trevor and Franklin, then get ready for this exciting news by Rockstar Games.

 

A new story-based content will be released in 2014, it has been confirmed on Rockstar’s Newsire. A Rockstar developer revealed, “We have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas.”

Rockstar also put light on the future for GTA online. This week brings a huge update, which includes deathmatch and the race creator beta. December will also bring new competitive team mode called Capture. Capture mode will include 4 variants — Raid, Contend, Hold, and GTA.
Regarding heist missions, the developer said, “Heists are currently in development and we are working very hard to get them as polished and as fun as they can be. Stay tuned for much more detail in the New Year.”

Rockstar has assured that many more updates for the world of GTA 5 are yet to be announced.
